Jeff Beck - English Guitarist
Jeff Beck - English Guitarist
Today we’re listening to Jeff Beck, an English guitarist from Wallington. At age six, he heard a recording of Les Paul playing “How High the Moon” and decided he’d play electric guitar.¹ He gained popularity in the ‘60s as the lead guitarist of the Yardbirds. In 1968, he embarked on a solo career with the LP Truth, on which he began a long collaboration with singer Rod Stewart. The instrumental track “Beck’s Bolero” was recorded with fellow Yardbirds Jimmy Page (rhythm guitar) and John Paul Jones (bass), as well as The Who’s Keith Moon (drums). One of Beck’s hit albums in the ‘70s was an instrumental record, Wired, an instrumental record with
Jan Hammer accompanying on keys. We’re playing Wired first and then following it with Truth. Beck passed away yesterday at the age of 78.
